Good software to draw electronic circuits in? I am after a program that I can use to conceptually design electronic circuits for my car. What I would like to be able to do is have a battery, with a voltage of whatever I give it, and then be able to wire it up with lights and other things. But what I would like to do is add in ammeters and voltmeters at different places and have their values displayed in real time I guess. So I can simulate the circuit and it will produce some numbers for me. I would like to also be able to add a fuse between the battery and the lights etc, which would blow if the current draw is too high, but that's not super important, I'll be able to tell from an ammeter if the fuse will blow. So what are some good programs to use for this sort of thing? Just idea's will be great and I'll search through, see which is more appropriate for myself. Thanks

I'm a high school junior interested in a career designing/creating electronics as a career when I'm out school; cell phones, TV's, video games - pretty much anything tech. I was just wondering if this would be considered electronic or computer engineering; I've gotten many mixed answers in the past; with the argument being electronic engineering would focus more on electrical engineering, and that computer engineering would focus more on software/programming. Right now I'm just looking for any more serious (profession is also a big bonus) opinions that may help define what I'm looking for in a major. I was also wondering what some good colleges are for said major. I know some like MIT, UC Berkeley, and Stanford are about top 3 or so, but I'm also looking for some good colleges less-known schools as well. Who would be responsible for an accident in the workplace due to a faulty design? (Construction/Electrical)? This is a very strange one, but yet it deeply concerns me. My line of work is in Electrical Contracting. I am new in this business area so my knowledge is very limited. I was employed to draw out schematical drawings on a Computer-Aided-Design software and send them out to customers of various companies. I was brought into the company because no-one previously employed does it. I have learned to use the software program over time, yet still haven't quite yet obtained the knowledge of what I have been drawing. All I have to go on, is the hand drawn designs that are given to me, so I can convert to an electronic form. Let me illustrate this idea using an analogy drawn from popular computer software. Assuming, I have a reasonable amount of storage space on my computer hard disk, if I first create an unformatted document using Microsoft(MS) Word, and then a second MS Word document that I format very rigorously, I do so because I consider MS Word software to be the best option for my purposes, as opposed to using, say, the less sophisticated Notepad software, where little formatting of documentsis possible. Now, if you argue that there is a vestigial structure to the first MSWord document (the capacity - in this case, unused - for formatting)and that this only became functional in the second document,ultimately concluding that the first document evolved from the second document, you would be incorrect, since I am the creator of both documents. Similarly, I would argue that vestigial organs do not necessarily confirm evolution; they only point to what tools - improvable overtime - the creator used while making the species. This same principle is seen even in electronic gadgets today. Most probably, such an explanation did not occur to Darwin given that, in his time, there were no common tools to carry out varied, complex,seemingly disconnected jobs. Suggestions for creating electronic manual/handbook? I would like to create an electronic manual or handbook and I'm not sure where to start. Some of the content already exists in a Word document. My vision is that this manual would have an interactive table of contents and possibly an index which would allow the user to click on a topic and be brought to the applicable page. I would also like it to be text search-able. I like the design of One Note 2007 notebooks, but users of this handbook are not likely to have that software. Therefore, I am leaning toward something that would be PDF or web browser based as an end product. My preference would be to use something that I already have access to (MS Office) or that I could obtain for little to no cost. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Costs to engineer/design a product? I am doing a New Venture project for school. Part of the project is financial feasibility. Our product is a type of electronic organizational tool. The physical product would consist of a number of existing technologies (e.g. touch-screen), but would need software developed for it. I have contacted a number of engineering firms, but I cannot find one that does this sort of thing. All I need is really ROUGH numbers for the purpose of this project on how much it would cost to have a consulting firm bring the design to a stage where the product can be manufactured. I also need a rough time frame. I am not worried about actually producing this product, just rough numbers on production/design so that I can create some financial projections, as I said, for the purpose of the project.

Need software to draw designs that can be digitized & embroidered. Corel? Photoshop? I have been drawing out (on pencil & paper) simple designs hoping to have them embroidered to make appliques and patches. I take them to someone who digitizes designs so that they can be embroidered, I always discover my lines and curves are not straight, and the designs come out looking sloppy and lopsided. Is there a computer program I can use to make my lines and curves neater? Which Photoshop or Corel program should I use? Is it easy to learn to draw using these programs? I'm trying to invent something...but where do I find the most efficient mechanisms for each part? For example what is the cheapest most efficient design for a unidirectional gear that does not wear out? I find it hard to imagine that someone has to reinvent the lock if they have a slightly different idea on how a doorknob functions. Now I know it is easy to find out how a lock is made, but what about other functions? I know I don't HAVE to come up with all the small details for each design...just like I don't have to program the software myself if I want a computer function on an electronic device. But in this case, it is kind of important because the mechanism MAYBE new and I don't know where to check if it already exists. My help you invent company says not to worry about it yet till I get the general concept recorded at the PTO. I therefore feel that I have both the intellectual and personal skills to be able to successfully study for a degree in Computer Science at Bangor. The course appeals to me because of the wide range of interesting subject areas, the chance to combine theoretical study with hands on projects and the specific and technical skills which I will gain and I know are much sought-after in the workplace. ____ Any helpful comments/suggestions or constructive critisism would be much appreciated.
