Electronic Design Software

What's a good program for making electronic music? I'm an aspiring musician very interested in starting my own electronic project. I have Pro Tools but it just doesn't perform the way I want it to... I'm looking for something that can get from from Daft Punk, to Postal Service, to Nine Inch Nails if possible. Can anybody help me with this?

How can i become a hard working man? Hi. I´m 19, a musician and just finished high school. I have a problem with motivation and concentration. I really want to practice the bass, learn music theory and make electronic music, but i can´t do it regularly. Most of the time i don´t do it at all, although i would really like to. It is also very difficult to set goals for me. So bassically i never do anithing, or finish things. I have hundreds of unfinished electronic projects. I always start to work on a piece, set everithing up and then i either stop or start an other. And the worst thing is that my whole life looks like this. I´m unable to work hard(i have no problems with it if i´m forced). If i don´t do anything i´m bored and feel like i´m wasting my time and do nothing with my life. I can´t study, i can´t practice, i can´t make music, i can´t do my homework etc. I tried some things to overcome this but nothing helped so far(setting up regural practice time, timetables etc.). Some advices please? Oh and if it helps: i am depressive most of the time but i fight hard against it and i´m quite succesful. I also get addicted very easily to almost everithing that doesn´t require work and gives you instant pleasure (sitcoms, marihuana etc.). I use drugs only very occasionally and i don´t dring and smoke.

How to best store 200GB of data for tens of years? As an electronic musician I've amassed a large set of composition files, a set of data that only gets bigger. I don't ever want to lose this data or have a project I've written end up corrupted and unavailable. Should I use archival (gold) DVDs? What a hassle (with 200GB+ of files, and each DVD only ~5gb, thats 40 tedious burn operations, asumming all of them work perfectly!). How about a 200 or 300gb hard drive? How long will inert, unused data stay around uncorrupted on a regular consumer hard drive? I'm expecting that in 10 years or so, I'll move this data somewhere else, so the longevity of the media only needs to be guaranteed up that point. Thanks!

Could someone PLEASE help me name my new band/music project?!?!? I have been a musician for years. I am into industrial rock and electronic music. I am also into ambient and very soft and dreamy sounds, think Depeche Mode meets Pink Floyd. I would VERY much like to find a name that is a made up word.. Meaning, if someone could think of a whole NEW word for me, that would be great, maybe by forging two words together. HOWEVER, I am up for other names as well. I should say though, that the theme of the layout for the page I am going to be using, I am for some reason thinking dark clouds. Black, Sort of depressiong and goth, but NOT typical blood and metal. HAHA I would like the name to sound "Dreamy" and a bit depressing and cold, if this makes any sense? New show coming up, beginner live DJ.? I am an up and coming DJ, I have a Numark Mixdeck which I run Traktor Pro on, and I am a pretty talented musician which I play the guitar, bass, and piano, all well having a well round knowledge of recording/technical use of music. I am a pretty good with all of my DJ equipment, and have good tracks that consist of Hip-Hop/Electronic that I have created and recorded myself. Recently I have met up with a friend who has got into rapping and is now getting his name out big to some fans and wants to collab. with me, and help him make some tracks. We just recently were given the option in about a month from my teacher/music friend to put on a show for our upcoming project that we are starting, and it will be a big show because of the location, so we figured why not try it to get the name out. My question is how do I prepare for this show, I know this is going to be different than the typical party where I just mix songs together on my Mixdeck for people to dance to, I need to put on a show to support not only the flow of the audience but to do it right with my friend who will be rapping. I have done live shows before but none like this, what do I do as the DJ for a rapper, am I going to need instrumental beats and if so what kind to make this a show or with some tracks that we create or that I have already made. As a DJ what am I going to need to do, what can I do to prepare for this, and is there way's to make this process more helpful (software/instruments) well if anyone can give me any insight it would be greatly appreciated.
