Dose any one know a good electronics kit for beginners? I'm trying to learn the basics of electronics and I tried reading electronic books but it's too confusing.I'm looking for a electronics set thant includes the basic components (resistors, capacitors, transistors ect.) tells you how they work and allows you to build a few circuits. I don't want a set for little kids but I don't want anything too complicated.I would really appreciate if anyone could help me out.
Anybody know of any good books to help teach my son electronics? he is 12 and has a basic electronics kits, but would like to learn more about electronics and circuit building etc. Thanks
Why does the NPN transistor not work in a toy electronics kit? The kit says that you're supposed to connect the base to the positive terminal, which supplies positive voltage to the base of the NPN resistor, turning it on. However, the NPN resistor turns on whether or not there is positive electricity supplied to the base. It is a problem because we're trying to control exactly how the circuit turns on and off I accidentally created a short several times, could that explain it? It is a 130-in-1 Maxitronix.
Did anyone have a negative experience buying electronics kit from Carl's? In thirty years have had just one package disappear, that was said to have been delivered, so wondering if anyone else had similar experience dealing with Carl's.

Where can I buy an electronics project kit? My 16 year old brothers birthday is in 2 days and I need to find a store that sells these OTHER THAN radio shack (I don't like the kit they have) When I was his age, I had the board box with the spring terminals on it... Does anybody know where to get these things anymore?
Can you jump start a 2008 Saturn Vue Redline without messing up the electronics? My boyfriend drives a 2008 Saturn Vue Redline and his battery died over the weekend. He won't jump start it because he thinks it'll mess up the electronics. Is this true? He thinks he might need one of those kits that actually recharges the battery (instead of jump starting it).
What electronics kit should I start with? I am very interested in getting stated in electronics. I'm looking for a kit to give me a good foundation and get me started. The are the kits I'm considering: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102912 and http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102913 I'm also thinking about this kit: http://www.makershed.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MKSL1 Would you suggest any of these kits, or a different kit? Thank-you so much for your help.
What is the best electronics hobby kit on the market today? I have a nephew (age 13) who has expressed an interest in learning about electronics and computers. I'd like to encourage him in this, so I'm going to buy him an electronics kit for Christmas. I figure I might as well invest in a good quality one, but I don't know too much about these things myself, the box sets in places like Radio Shack look a little cheap, and I don't trust the objectivity of product 'reviews' on sites like Amazon.com. Does anyone have any first-hand knowledge of which kits/manufacturers are best for a youngster to teach himself about circuits and such? As an additional caveat, I'd like to hold off on a kit that requires actual soldering, for his mother's sake if nothing else.
Trying to identify an old electronics experimenter kit.? This is what I remember about it. It used components mounted into red blocks that snapped onto the white assembly board like Legos. It then used little hairpin jumpers and short wires to make the circuits. It had two blue consoles, one had a primitive morse key switch, indicating lamp, speaker, and variable capacitor, the other remote console only had the speaker and morse key switch. I found it Heathkit Jr 36 Model JK-1033

Electronics Kit Build Help? I am going to do a DIY Electronics kit, the LKG Industries kit # 80-240 Logic Probe. Also the 80-230 Op-Amp Function Generator. I have a two year degree in electronics and have done some light electronics work on the job. But I've never soldered up an entire PC board from scratch. In class we worked with small projects at any one time, mostly on bread boards. Any tips on where to start? From the middle out, no matter what component I come to....just physically solder in from the middle out until reaching the edges?.....or solder in certain components first, maybe because certain components are harder to work with than others. Resistors being easiest and IC's being more difficult. Any suggestions? I don't want to burn anything. I want to get it right the first time...nice and neat. I was a certified IPC soldering specialist. I have to change careers from JetMech to something else because aircraft mechanics are going backwards in America, so I thought I'd try this. Thanks Peter K you said "ok" but nothing else. What did you say "ok" to? John...."best contributor"....oh really? Nothing better to say than that? What's the point? Two great answers. I'll wait a little longer and put them to a vote.
How do I get into electronics as a hobby? I want to make circuit boards and possibly make some programmable stuff, I used to make kits with my soldering iron I have experience with that.
electronics kit advice please? jac the hat Your Open QuestionShow me another » Electronics kit advice please? I was given a blinkybugs make your own art kit for a present - it consists of 3 LEDs that change colour a battery pack a little frame a sticky pad and 2 connectors - when I tried to put it together I wasnt strong enough to crimp the positive and neg ends together and my partner was too strong and bust the crimper connections. So he said he would solder them together when he did and we attached the ends to the wires nothing happened at all except I burnt my fingers on the leds that got very hot. These are the instructions does anyone know what happened did we short the LEDS by soldering them?any help greatly appreciated - (not about my burnt fingers I can deal with them) http://blinkybug.com/docs/LEDArtKitInstr...
Where can I get a detailed, complete electronics kit? While in college, I took an intro electronics course for Physicists. We had a large breadboard with its own several options for a DC supply, and then all the resistors, capacitors, transistors, and whatnot to complete all the projects in our rather large electronics book. I'm trying to get back into electronics, and I'm having a hard time finding a good kit. Most of the ones now are for children and are just essentially connecting wires to preset components, or they are too specialized, specifically for radios, photometers, robotics, etc. What I'm looking for is a large breadboard with a DC supply that plugs into a wall outlet, and bags of many types of the basic components needed to make intro circuits (and I'd buy more expensive things like timers and microprocessors on my own later). I'm willing to spend several hundred dollars, with room to buy more components later on. Any suggestions?
Can somebody make sense of this electronics kit explanation that has to do with diodes? I am confused because positive (conventional) current is only supposed to flow in one direction through the diode. My electronics kit says the following: Why is it implying that positive and negative current can flow in the same direction through the diode? "When either or both inputs are low, positive voltage is applied to the PNP transistor base base through the diode(s) and the PNP transistor stays off. Because the PNP transistor does not complete the circuit, no current is supplied to the base of the NPN transistor and it is also off. The common cathode terminal is not connected to the negative power supply and the LED remains off. When both inputs are high, both diodes supply negative voltage to the base of the PNP transistor, so it turns on. The NPN transistor also turns on, and the current flows to the readout to light the LED." Another question I have is that the picture (which I am unable to post) shows a branch with a 22 K resistor that is connected to the NPN transistor. If you follow the path of the negative voltage from the battery terminal, it can flow through this resistor to the NPN base. Or can it? Any ideas on what is preventing this voltage from turning off the NPN? Perhaps because 22K is a sufficiently high resistance to block it?
I want to build a countdown clock but cant find any plans for a suitable electronics kit anywhere.? I'm getting into building electronic kits and I'd like to build a coundown timer using red 7 segment digit displays. Preferably I'd like to use 8 digits in the display so that I can display the time remaining in the coutdown in the following format: hh:mm:ss:tt (tt = tenths of a second) I'm having trouble finding plans for such a kit. Does anyone know of any websites or reference material that would have plans for a kit like this?
Know of any sites for DIY tube amp kits? I'm looking to build a DIY tube amp and I've already got an empty 1x12 combo with tube sockets, and now I have just the electronics left to buy. I've heard of tube amp kits which supposedly includes all the electronics necessary to complete the project, but I haven't been able to find any kits below $200. Does anybody out there know of any decently priced kits?
Arduino and electronics hobby help? I used to do small electronics hobby kits as a kid. Mostly solderless bread boards from radio shack sometimes wired up to other things. I want to get back into the hobby but don't want to start out on another silly radio shack kit. Do you think an Arduino would be a worth while purchase? Would I be in over my head? What kind of projects are available, and are the instructions easy to follow? any other info you have would be helpful Thank you internet.

How to really understand electrical circuits? Whenever I get kits or books about electronics, they don't explain what every little part in a circuit is used for and how it completely works, it gives a more overall, genral type explanation. And the more advanced kits explain the details even less. I want to understand the details, what every little component in the circuit is used for, so I know enough to make my own circuits. How can I do this?

I want to find a device that hooks to a USB port that will detect pressure.? I'm looking for some kind of USB 'button' or 'pressure detector' that will let me query it through software. I want to write (for instance) a program that will tell me if anybody has come into my room while I was gone by detecting the pressure change on a floor mat. I need to find this pressure-checking USB item or maybe some kind of more generalized USB electronics experimentation kit that'll allow me to build my own.
Can I directly install my satellite radio? My wife bought me a Sirius satellite radio for X-mas. I had it installed by a friend and I dont like the method of installation. There is a lot of static when you go through a blank FM station. I want it hard wired to my existing Ford stereo. I have a 2004 explorer with a 6 CD holder stereo. There is a button on the front of the radio that says SAT. It is for a Satellite radio. I took it to a car electronics store and asked about a kit from Ford to directly hook up the satellite radio. They didn't know. Does anybody know if this is possible and where can I get the kit.
Any hobby microprocessor kits that run java? High spec, low cost, ease of use? I'm looking to dabble in robotics but want to bypass as much low level language as possible. I'm not interested in writing assembler or machine code, nor complicated microprocessor interfacing. I don't know if I need to specify this but out of the box multitasking is preferred. Ideally, it would have built in digital and analogue inputs and outputs. I don't consider myself a professional java programmer yet, and I only have A-level experience in electronics so I would prefer to stick to hobby kits, or something equivalent unless there's an easy commercial 'thing' i could use. As you can tell I'm at a bit of a loss as to what exactly it is I'm looking for - the precise terminolgy escapes me. Any ideas?
What travel adapter kit should i get? Hi Everyone! I'm going to France next month and I'm wondering which site should i go to get a good deal on a travel adapter kit and i can use it again for future traveling? I'm not bringing a lot of electronics, just my phone, Ipod and my digital camera that use a rechargeable battery. I'm not sure which store might sell those, i look at the apple store but is quite expensive, I'm pretty sure they have better store that sell the adapter similar for cheap, maybe circuit city or best buy. Thanks for your help.
What are some tips you'd give me about ebay? My parents finally agreed to let me start a ebay Business for selling electronics and I've got some questions. Is there a source that I can go to buy large quantities of electronics online. Is there some type of free ebay starter kit I can get. What products would you suggest that are selling pretty well right now. And if there are any other suggestions you have for me please tell, I'm very eager about getting this thing started so any suggestions will be very appreciated.
Please tell me how to put together an electronic choke for a tube light? This might sound pretty dumb, but I bought a readymade kit for an electronic choke for a tube light even though I know nothing about electronics. I thought I can do some soldering looking in to the enclosed diagram and put it together, but I can't figure out the head or tail of that diagram. Nothing in the kit resembles anything like what's shown in the diagram including the circuit board. Now stop laughing and tell me how to put it together.
I want to convert my bike to an electric bike, anyone have any experience with this? I want to convert my current bike to an electric bike for less than $200. I'm really not that handy with electronics, but if some instruction to put A into B I can do it, I just wouldn't be able to figure out that A goes into B with out the instructions. Anyways, does anyone have some tips? All the sites that I've found are very unprofessional or non-specific so it's really hard to figure out anything from them. I would be willing to buy a kit.

Hooking up an Ipod to a stereo in an 07 subaru impreza? I looked around best buy, and they have "kits" that allow you to hook up the ipod directly through the stereo system. Unfortunately for me, they did not have one available for my car and neither does the company (peripheral electronics) they suggested. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on a brand that makes the kits or other ways I could go about doing this. Id rather not go with the FM adaptor, but if I had to i would. Thanks alot for any help!
How hard is it to install a remote start kit on a 06 denali? CAn a mechanic do it also or does it have to be someone from an electronics place. I ve seen them sold at like Autozone for like under 100. Im not sure how good those are either. I called a local electronics place here and it will be over 400 for one installed plus parts!
