Is there any documentation regarding the small amounts of voltage produced by LEDs that are exposed to light?

I was at work in an electronics lab and I was measuring the resistance across a voltmeter. I noticed that the resistance reading would vary by as much as 10 kilo-Ohms when I moved my hand over it. I then realized that there was an LED on the same circuit and it was when I covered the LED that the readings fluctuated. I switched to the voltmeter and measured 1.2 miliVolts at regular room brightness. I shined a very bright light on the LED and recieved a reading of 72 miliVolts. I was just wondering if there reports of similar situations and if some more comprehensive data was available that would give figures on the voltage outputs of different types of LEDs.

  1. Here are a couple of article about the photovoltaic effect of LED's. WK
