Can anyone tell me how can i design a electronic jam?

Can anyone tell me how can i design an electronic jam? I don't know how to define the bits in the combination table when they are "0" and when "1". The jam i wnt to work like this: the jam to have 4 tasters (inputs) for 4 players when the first player push his taster the display to show any number from 1 to 6. Please tell me if anyone know how to define the bits. Thanks!!!
