2. To design cars, planes or any kind of electronic stuff they will most likely have gone to university. You will need a background in physics and maths to get on to the course. To design cars a degree in Automotive engineering which focus' on structural analysis, fluid dynamics, stress and strains, materials and a number of other disciplines. To design planes the same applies, but the disciplines are tailored to suit for the aeronautical industry. Electronic stuff would fall under electrical engineering and physics is heavily relied on for this. Hope this answers your question

4. I spent 12 years in the Air Force repairing military aircraft. Then spent 6 years working on planes as a civilian. Now I am designing the wiring for a small jet. Sometimes you just learn from experience.
